Alec Lamar Childress was born on October 10, 1939 in Wier, Mississippi. Wier is located 100 miles of Jackson in Choctaw County. He is the second of 5 children of Lucille and Jode Childress. He has 3 sisters (Themonia, Linda, and Sandra) and one brother (Jonathan).
Alec's mother was a teacher until she married Jodie and they became farmers. Alec and his siblings attended school and helped on the farm. In 1956, the family moved from Mississippi to Evanston, Illinois so that his father could seek new opportunities. Alec attended and graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1957.
Alec was employed by Northwestern University until 1959, and then was hired by Caisson Corporation in Niles, Illinois. He worked there as an office maintenance person. With his strong work ethic, Alec quickly excelled and moved up. From a truck driver, to a crane operator, then to yard supervisor. In 1983 Case Foundation Company of Roselle, Illinois bought out Caisson Corporation. Alec remained with the company. He was promoted to Assistant Equipment Manager in 2002. Several years later, Alec was promoted to Equipment Manager. After 46 years of faithful service, Mr. Childress retired in December of 2005.
On September 5, 1987, Alec married Gail Simmons in their home in Evanston, Illinois. Alec has three sons, Jodie, Amondo, and Jacques. His oldest son Michael sadly passed in 1987. Alec has eight wonderful grandchildren, five boys, and three girls.
Alec became a member of First Church of God Christian Life Center in Evanston in 1993. He was ordained as an elder in 2000, and severed as a Chairman of the Board of Directors for three years. As an elder, he assisted in funeral services and has given complete grave site invocation services. Alec has taught men's bible study classes and lectured as a guest speaker at various neighborhood churches. He left First Church of God in 2004 and currently attends Vineyard Christian Church of Evanston. Alec volunteers his time to Brother 2 Brother for the needy and teaches weekly bible study class to senior citizens.
